Most New Zealanders live by, or at least nearby, the coast, and beach holidays are ingrained in the national culture. Everyone has their own treasured family memories of times spent by the sea, from dropping sandwiches in the sand, getting swamped by rogue waves, dozing off under a brilliant azure sky, to surfing, mooring up in a peaceful sound, or lazing on a city beach in the lunch hour. This collection distils such moments into the essence of the Kiwi beach lifestyle. Accompanying each image is a beach-related excerpt from New Zealand writers, including Janet Frame, CK Stead, Bill Manhire, and many more, and from celebrities including Oscar Keightley, Pete Bossley and Kirsten Morrell.
