Architecture

New Zealand content. Container architecture is ayoung branch of architecture. The common denominator is always the same (the standard ISO container), but the resulting projects are both extremely varied and of high quality, as regards their underlying concepts as well as outlook. The ISO container, a companion of globalisation, is a cosmopolitan building block, which makes container architecture at home all around the world. After an overview of the container system and the historical circumstances that resulted in this type of architecture, this book gives 45 projects, constructed from as many as 6441 containers. They are grouped into three chapters according to function, so that there are Housing, Public Buildings and Conceptual Projects. Jure Kotnik is a freelance architect who lives and works in Ljubljana, Swlovenia. He has spent the past few years researching budget contemporary housing including container architecture. He set up a system of container housing, which won him the 2006 Trimo Research Award. Co-operating with various architects, he works on projects in different fields of architecture.
