Description

Old Truck backfires, graunches gears, won’t start and often has to be towed. Retired and shut up in a shed, he feels alone and unwanted. Is this the end for Old Truck? Then brother John comes home……. In this delightful story for 4-10 year olds, sisters Margery and Jennifer capture the New Zealand family farm in the 70s. For young and old there are themes of faithful friendship, of feeling valued and being loved. Today the real truck, a 1921 Model 10 Republic, is ‘out and about’ at vintage machinery rallies and has been featured in ‘Talking Trucks’ on CueTV.

Author description

Jennifer attended Central Hawkes Bay College, then Lincoln University. Graduated B Hort Sci., Lincoln University and Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) Christchurch Teachers College. Taught horticulture for 8 years, then transitioned to teaching, learning skills and academic writing at Christchurch Polytechnic and then Lincoln University. In 1999 she and husband, Ken established a specialist mail order herb nursery which they ran for 18 years. Jennifer now tends a half-acre herb and vegetable garden in Oxford, Canterbury, where she lives with husband and teenage son, Tarn. Since 2003 she has written the herb column for New Zealand Lifestyle Block magazine (formerly Growing Today).
